Cameraphones - documenting every moment of our lives

Last night I went to a Foo Fighters gig at Le Zenith in Paris.

As you can see from his comments on this photo, Kai Carver (who took plenty of pics himself) was struck by the number of cameras and phones in the audience. As Kai says, "Lighters are so passé".

Over the last year, I've started to get into the habit of taking photos - and at least one ropey video - at every gig I go to. This compulsion has even rubbed off on one of the people I was with last night, who took a few snaps with his new Samsung D500 as well.

Where does it come from, this desire to document every moment of our lives? Has the "always with you" availability of cameraphones created this desire, or simply given us a means to satisfy it?
