MobiHand discount deadlock - why the TamsPalm discount didn’t work out

TamsPalm readers were recently given a discount on a few Tamoggemon titles(fixed the discount now…so if you want to use it, go ahead) - but the discount didn’t work out. The ESD system simply refused to give the discount out…

Hitachi Unveils World’s Smallest RFID

According to AP, Hitachi recently unveiled RFID chips that are just 0.002 inches by 0.002 inches and look like bits of powder. They’re thin enough to be embedded in a piece of paper, company spokesman Masayuki Takeuchi said Thursday. Shown to the public for the first time earlier this month, the new chip is an improvement on its predecessor from Hitachi — the Mu-chip, which at 0.4 millimeters by 0.4 millimeters, looks about the size of the period at the end of this sentence.

Aurora Lights up Japanese Mobiles

Due to the time zone difference, Japanese consumers can enjoy the sites of the aurora between lunchtime and evening. As well as being able to watch streaming video of northern lights, the site also offers video on demand and still images for download. Offered as a subscription service costing 315 yen per month ($2.60).

KDDI Continues Net Subscriber Adavatage

The CDMA Development Group has congratulated KDDI for signing up more new users than their rivals since Japan’s mobile number portability (MNP) rules took effect on October 24, 2006. Of the more than one million subscribers who changed their service provider between October 24, 2006 and January 31, 2007, KDDI has witnessed a net increase of 600,000 3G subscribers, while the other Japanese operators have seen a net reduction. Also, when considering all new subscriptions within the past three months ending in January 2007, KDDI garnered 67 percent of the total number of net subscriptions.

Flat-Rate Data Plan Saved 10,000 Euro

We noted an interesting post, on a local mobile developers site, which points out out how much money their flat-rate data plan saved the company in January. According to the scanned statement of DoCoMo’s bill; “By using the pakehoudai option [a JPY 3,900 service plan option for unlimited usage of i-mode data traffic] you saved 1.67 million JPY this month.” They calculated the data packets used total just over 1GB (that’s hardcore — Eds) which would have cost approx. 10,000 Euro under the regular per packet billing model.. Yikes!

Beceem will be supplying Mobile WiMAX silicon to Samsung for use in fixed and mobile WiMax applications, reports Unstrung.

Samsung is currently the front-runner in the mobile WiMax market. Samsung 802.16e gear is used in Korea’s WiBro standard, and will be used by Sprint in their Washington DC Mobile WiMAX rollout later this year.
