Intellij IDEA 7 supports Flex development
Before switching to Eclipse I was a IntelliJ user. I use to develop Java applications with that IDE. Recently I’ve read that the new version of IntelliJ has added the Flex supports. I’m very excited to try the software again because there were some cool features of the IDE I’ve ever loved !

More bad news for Sprint: Qwest is reportedly planning to stop reselling Sprint's wireless services to its customers, and may start offering service through Verizon Wireless instead.
“Qwest currently offers a branded wireless service through an agreement with Sprint in which it buys wholesale minutes from the carrier and resells them,” explain the Wall Street Journal's Dionne Searcey and Amol Sharma.
“That arrangement hasn't been profitable for Qwest, which also has been stuck with Sprint exclusivity terms that prevent it from offering its customers the latest handsets,” Searcey and Sharma write. “As a result, Qwest has been trolling for a new wireless arrangement to replace the Sprint agreement, which expires next year.”
“Verizon and Sprint both use the same wireless technology standard known as CDMA, which could make a possible transition easier for Qwest customers,” notes TMCnet's Tim Gray.

Keynote next week
I must admit I have never given a talk to Tower and Utility folks in our industry. They do all the nitty-gritty stuff to get towers in place before the network is lighted up. Am looking forward to the discussion and the questions. Will be talking about the future of our industry and what can […]
Continue...A $250B mobile ad market
I have seen ridiculous projections before but this has to top everything we have seen before and then some more.
Of all the people, GSMA is estimating that the “platform play” could be worth $250B by 2010.
And, in a report shown to exclusively ME, the GSMA estimates this ‘platform play’ could eventually be worth a staggering […]

Saguaro development cancelled
Yesterday, the developer team of PDAPerformance sent a mail to all beta testers of Saguaro and wrote that the development of Saguaro has been cancelled.
PDAPerformance wanted to program a new GUI for Palm OS. A first public demo of it, called “LineUp”, showed a GUI consisting of widgets with interesting visual effects.
Back from the FITC. Hot impressions and feedbacks
The FITC is over and I’m back to my work in my Rome office. They were 3 fantastic days very intensive where I had the opportunity to meet some old friends and new ones.
Carlos‘ and Ralph’s sessions were very inspiring to me and they showed a lot of cool things and ideas (ehi Ralph you’ve missed my session so you have to owe me a beer next time ;)).
Data Visualization with Flex and AIR by Nico Lierman was great and I loved the Google Analitycs examples he showed us.
Starting to dismantle the Tyranny of the SIM card
About 18 month ago, I wrote a deliberately provocative post titled “The Tyranny of the SIM Card”. It tackled the thorny issue of whether the SIM (which is essentially ‘an operator on a chip’) should maintain its central role as old-school cellular tele…

I often post screenshots to help explain what I’m talking about or to illustrate a point I’m trying to make. More than a few times people have asked me how I produced the screenshot to begin with. Either they were unsatisfied with what they were using or they didn’t know what to use […]

Continue...Worldwide RFID Revenue to Grow 30 Percent in 2008
In a report entitled Market Trends: Radio Frequency Identification, Worldwide, 2007-2012, research firm Gartner this week predicted that worldwide RFID revenue will total $1.2 billion in 2008, a 30.9 percent increase from 2007 revenue of $917.3 million. By 2012, the firm says, worldwide RFID revenue will total $3.5 billion.
“The market for RFID technologies has begun to transition from being compliance-oriented to being revenue-generating and innovative,” says Gartner research director Chad Eschinger. “Much of the initial adoption of RFID was driven by mandates from the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) and Wal-Mart where compliance with a retailer directive rather than business competitiveness was often the underlying driver. Early adopters faced tight profit margins and pressed technology providers for lower hardware costs. Fortunately for the market, this trend has waned and innovation rather than cost is becoming a key driver for adoption.”
Continue...Experience a better shopping experience with RFID Media Cart
How about making your shopping experience a lot easier than your previous experiences? Can I visualize some nodding faces? Believe me the next time you go shopping in Singapore it would be quite a relieving experience for you. The new shopping cart dubbed as Media Cart will be making theur debut at Cold Storage before the end of this year. These are not the ordinary carts you are used to generally but RFID equipped shopping carts which identifies the position of the shopper via the technology and feeds them target advertisement and item location through LCD screen attached at the front of the cart.
Its product locator feature will display the exact product location coupled with the map of the supermarket. It will also be including a loyalty card program which enables shoppers to generate customized shopping lists and have it displayed on the cart screen while they are shopping at the superstore so that they don't miss out on any items which they intend to purchase.
A shopper will probably have a great time shopping and it would be a good option for men like me who hate shopping and get lost in the maze of supermarket while buying their daily requirements. Hopefully this RFID cart will once again renew my interest in shopping around at the local store.
