Telecompaper reports telco that Turk Telekom has selected Nortel's IP Powered Business communications service to provide carrier-grade voice and multimedia services to businesses and consumers throughout Turkey. Turk Telekom plans to use Nortel's technology to deliver Centrex IP and SIP multimedia services to corporate customers and SMEs. Under the terms of the contract, Nortel will deploy a customised VoIP system at Turk Telekom, leveraging its Communication Server, an IP multimedia softswitch that supports voice and multimedia business features and VoIP protocols. Nortel's platform also includes customer premise equipment for end-users, including Nortel SIP phones and the Nortel Business Services Gateway (BSG). The BSG is a SME router which integrates in one box routing, switching, mobility, security, QoS and SIP gateway capabilities for voice and data services. The new capabilities also include SIP Mobility extensions, designed to integrate Turk Telekom's GSM and hosted VoIP environments.
