New broadband player Infolient is aiming to increase its share of the Malaysian broadband market to 10% by the end of 2009, The Edge is reporting. The operator plans to target small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) who have not yet upgraded from dial-up services, with Infolient director Affendy Arshad noting, ‘There are about 3.8 million households using dial-up. We found that most of them were not willing to trade-up to broadband because they don’t see the importance and benefits of broadband. They are quite happy with dial-up. But we see this as an opportunity to educate them on the benefits of broadband. The industry would definitely grow.’ Infolient launched broadband services in August 2008 and claims to have signed up 7,800 subscribers since launch; it aims to reach 100,000 subscribers by 2010 and will focus on providing customised services to SMEs.
